Five Reasons Pop Culture Is Run By Fanfiction

(Okay, so the article is more "Five Reasons Why Fanfiction is a Completely Legitimate Medium," but nonetheless. I was tickled.)

So after a year and three weeks of unemployment and a harrowing week of reference checks, I am finally reemployed! I'm excited, but have some mixed feelings due to the long hours and prohibition from taking days off for six months. Still, it's only a year contract and I really did need a job. So yay! Tomorrow will be a night for celebrating!

Cheers from Gallifrey One, my dears! I decided to go for just Saturday, just so I could see what it's all about. Some really interesting folks about, and the line for Peter Davison's autograph was around the corner. But I'm sitting right in front of a life-size TARDIS as I type this, which is way cool. In the "deeply deeply dorky" sense of "cool."

Guys, can someone explain what Tumblr is to me? Please? Everyone seems to have one, but I don't even know what it's all about! (I made actual effort and went to the main page, but I'm still kind of puzzled because until a short time ago I always thought it was like Photobucket or something, just an image-hosting website.)

But people keep talking about their their Tumblr and it sounds like it'd be something cool, but the ignorant starfish thing.

So, f-list, is anybody going to Gallifrey One this year? I'm considering it, but I'd be a lot more sure if I didn't have to wander all alone hoping to make a friend.

FINALLY home! After three weeks, two and a half feet of snow, and several loooooong flights I have finally returned to Los Angeles and (much as I miss my family and East Coast People) I am very glad to be here. Okay, so I have to pay a late fee for my rent being nearly a week late (after I even TOLD the landlady why it would be late, grumble grumble) and my kitchen table is covered a foot deep with books I need to either sell or pack up because my bookshelves are overflowing, but I've got my own bed back, I'm starting a drawing class at UCLA next week, and I can watch whatever I want on TV without anyone making faces1

:D It's good to be back.

This is my end of the year shout out to the many "friends" I have never been in the same room with but who have inspired, amused, comforted, encouraged, and touched me in so many ways. The lovely catyuy sent me a virtual present of...presents! LOL Wrapped in brightly-colored paper and a shiny bow! I am very very excited by my gift, and I give her great smooshy hugs in thanks.

Well, I SAID I wanted to see some snow while I was home.  And here at the Jersey Shore, BOY HAVE WE GOT SNOW.
